| Got this camera to supplement my rather bulky Samsung SLR, for walking trips, photographing buildings and videos of my grand daughter. On all counts I am delighted with my purchase. Have taken some excellent shots on our regular walks in the Lake District. It has survived a fall, rain and the build quality and finish seems well up to scratch. The HD videos are excellent played from the camera to a TV, although my computers can not replay the files smoothly from the stored files and the instructions supplied and software does not seem to be up to the HD movies. Perhaps I will have to upgrade my computer and get compatible editing programme. Very impressed with the 24mm wide angle / 10x zoom lens and options for shooting, have taken some excellent shots at full zoom. I would have preferred a hard written manual as some of the operations are quite complex. Only criticism is the battery cover comes off rather easily when removing from carrying case. Was also keen on a Panasonic TZ7 but the considerably lower price, favourable reviews and brand loyalty made up my mind. It also does not suffer from the sloppy mode dial criticized on the TZ7. Overall fantastic value/performance. |

I recently bought this camera in anticipation of a trip to Florence. It seemed good value since it offered good telephoto and wide angle capability without the bulk of an alternative camera and interchangeable lens set-up.
I have to say it turned in some great results that exceeded expectations. You will see a bit of criticism in reviews about low light capability - fair enough, but what would you expect at this price. It has the advantage of a really effective auto mode but lets you switch easily into manual for more creative shots.
My verdict? Excellent all rounder for the price and I have some great images to prove it. |

I spent a lot of time think and researching before I bought this camera. I read reviews and wondered if I should buy the finepix F70EXR instead. I am very pleased on every level with my WB500 which arrived yesterday. The Amazon price is great, it arrived factory fresh in perfect condition. It is smaller than I expected but with a big lens. The HD video so far has been great - I have tried it outside and had clear video's. The build quality is high and impressive by my standards. The wrist strap is a must as I feel that it would be easy to drop. So far the photos are as good as I hoped they would be. The 24mm wide angle is very impressive - I can't wait to do a family group.
The only downside is that the Samsung master does not want to install on Windows 7 but I have an XP notebook and will put my photos on that instead. I feel sure that Samsung have got a Windows 7 compatible version somewhere but don't let that dint your enthusiasm for the WB500 in any way as it is a great camera and you can use windows explorer to get the photo's and videos off the camera onto a Win 7 pc anyway.
Additional Note...
I have been using the camera for several weeks now and I am still pleased. I downloaded Samsung Master from the Samsung website onto the '7' machine and it works so no issues any more. |
