Just returned from holiday. Have effortlessly taken over 200 shots, all have turned out well, with only human error spoiling things. I didn't need to read the instruction as the large touch screen is incredibly intuitive. The camera always seems to know what you are looking for. Face recognition and smile detection all work well. Every eye in a group of 14 was identified by the autofocus system. The camera starts up quickly and is so light it can easily be carried everywhere; the bargain camera bag on amazon is also very good and allows safe carriage on a waist belt. The Carl-Zeis lens is very high quality and compliments the 12 Mp resolution which also allows "digital zoom". A docking station allows your photos to be seen on HDMI TV (cable needed). I haven't installed the enclosed pc software because I use the decent freeware Picasa from Google.
The battery life is not so good after a lot of flash photography, maybe the screen is energy hungry too, just take the recharger if you are away for more than a day or two. Memory cards are now very reasonable and I have taken a few short videos. The included screen touch pen makes life easy and avoids fingermarks on the screen.
This is my 3rd cybershot and they just get better and better. I have a large Lumix for more planned photography but I anticipate the image quality to be pretty indistinguishable. |
Never again will I say "I wish I had brought the camera."

| Years of carrying a large rucksack of camera, lenses and a Handycam are now a distant memory with this minature piece of design excellence. Beautifully made, so easy to use and capable of taking superb quality photographs and videos it is a typical high quality Sony product. I know that it will not replace my DSLR but for 90% of the photos that I want to take it is ideal and I cannot tell any difference in quality up to A4 print size. It is not as good in really low light but the pay-off for me is the fact that it is clipped to my belt in the excellent little Sony LCS case and ready to use in seconds. Though I did not purchase it for micro photography it can focus really close with amazing clarity and sharpness. As with all Sony products you are stuck with their Memory Sticks and Batteries but I have bought extra genuine Sony's from Amazon at excellent prices. The large and beautifully crisp LCD is a power eater so I have two extra batteries. The replacement NP-FD1 batteries have a 'time remaining' feature which is far superior to the supplied battery's power meter. I love this camera, it fits in a pocket or small case, looks a million dollars and produces stunning results. I have added a Durasec clear LCD protector (excellent fit and quality). It is not a replacement for a DSLR, one or two additional lenses and a stand alone Video camera but it is a compromise that I (and my back) is more than happy to make. Highly recommended. |
